Active Studies

Who can participate?

Everyone is welcome to participate; however, different studies require specific qualifications. Please read specific qualifications for each study. We encourage you to fill out our questionnaire, which will allow TOSI to contact you when you are eligible for future studies. Even if you fill out the questionnaire, participation in any study is voluntary. Also, children under the age of 18 year old require permission from a parent or guardian.

Is there a Fee?

No, there is no fee for participation and no penalty for discontinuation of a study.

Good Clinical Practice

TOSI strives to make the needs and health of its participants a priority. If any participant has any concern before, during, or after a study please tell the trained faculty, clinicians, or researchers.

AIIS-501 : Contact Lens Wearers Needed

A clinical research study to find out whether UV blocking contact lenses protect the health of the back of the eye and to see if your lifestyle and geographical location has any influence on your eyes is being conducted at the University of Houston, College of Optometry.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be between 18 and 50 years of age
  2. Existing soft contact lens wearer
  3. Have been a resident in the local area of the site for 5 years (or in a similar environment).
  4. Require visual correction in both eyes

This study involves 1 visit of approximately 45 minutes, which will take place at the College of Optometry. You will receive a $30 Amazon Gift Card for completing the entire study visit.

Study AIIS-502 : Research Study Participants Needed

A clinical research study evaluating the effect of environment (including UV exposure) and lifestyle on the eye is being conducted at the University of Houston, College of Optometry.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be between 18 and 50 years of age
  2. No previous eye surgeries

This study involves 1 visit of approximately 35 minutes, which will take place at the College of Optometry. You will receive a $15 Amazon Gift Card for completing the entire study visit.

Study 703 : Research Study Subjects Needed

A clinical research study evaluating the impact that dry eyes have on the temperature of the front of the eye is currently taking place at The Ocular Surface Institute, University of Houston.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  1. At least 18 years of age and in good general health
  2. Do not wear contact lenses (or have not worn with the past 6 months)
  3. Normal eye health (dry eye is acceptable)

This study consists of one visit that lasts about 3.25 hours. If eligible to participate, you will receive $40.00 in cash at the completion of the visit.

A clinical research study evaluating the impact that reduced humidity has on the tears and visual performance is currently taking place at The Ocular Surface Institute, University of Houston.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age and in good general health
  • Normal eye health (dry eye is acceptable)
  • Do not wear contact lenses (or have not worn with the past 6 months)

This study consists of one visit that lasts about 3 hours. If eligible to participate, you will receive $40.00 in cash at the completion of the visit.
